Details

These courses are taught by interdisciplinary Guatemalan born Melbourne artist Juan Rodriguez Sandoval who specialises in installation and sustainable approaches to making art from drawing to sculpture.

Designed for teenagers aged 12-16 years, there are two directions in which students may pursue their studies:

 1.  CONTEMPORARY DRAWING & EXPLORATIONS

In this program students will create a body of work that uses drawing materials that may include coloured pencils, graphite pencils, charcoal, pastels, markers and watercolour paints as their foundation.  Works may also involve collage, installation, group collaborations and digital art even extending into light 3 dimensional sculptural works depending on the artist studied.

2.  CONTEMPORARY PAINTING & EXPLORATIONS

The painting stream of this course as suggests uses acrylic paint and other heavier mediums resulting in finished pieces that reflect the subject matter of the unit at hand.  Students will work with drawing, painting and sculpture in this unit which is very hands on and dynamic.

TERM ONE, 2022

Students will be introduced to the fruitful and culturally diverse world of Latin American contemporary art and artists from a wide array of countries.  Both classes will focus on three overall projects with completed outcomes.  This inspirational curricula will give our young students a concise yet comprehensive understanding of the amazing fine art that is happening today in Latin America not only teaching them new techniques but also expanding their understanding of art and art history.

In a world that promotes diversity and inter-cultural connection we believe that these courses will enrich your teen’s understanding as well as result in beautiful expressed artistic outcomes across the important mediums of art making.

Materials Requirements:

Contemporary Art Students will require a standard kit of basic materials.  Non standard project materials involving sculpture, installation and collaborative projects are included in the cost of the course.

A selection of art kits are available for purchase online. You may find that your teen already has many of these items available at home.

Discounted materials are available through our online shop – Please click here for the relevant kit for this program.

Parents are also welcome to purchase single items – please call our office on 9528 3392 or email enquiries@artencounters.com.au for specific orders.

With the instability of the past 2 years and the constant lock downs in our community, we have developed an impressive online program in the event that there is a compulsory lockdown in 2022 or the short shut down of our business due to an outbreak.  Please note that if you enrol, students will be expected to continue their studies online and that there will be no refunds, transfers or credits available.
